The collection consists of papers of the Cabaniss family from 1864-1959. The papers include letters to Elbridge Gerry Cabaniss II (1871-1923), Mary LaRoche (1864-1887), Florence Cabaniss (1873-1887), Lila Cabaniss (1886-1896, 1900-1909, 1912-1956), Sara Cabaniss Thornton (n.d.), and miscellaneous correspondence (1885-1919). These family members lived mainly in Forsyth, Savannah, and Atlanta, Georgia. Also contains newspaper clippings and obituaries related to family members and genealogical and miscellaneous papers pertaining to the Cabaniss, LaRoche and Oliver families. The collection reflects the social climate as well as revealing much about the personal lives of many members of a prominent Georgia family.
